Luna y Sol

Luna y Sol

Luna y Sol or Moon and Sun. Like two lovers who have waited many years to reunite, the moon and the sun were destined to meet again and the whole world waits with eager anticipation. Ok, maybe this phenomenon is more scientific calculation than romantic rendezvous but it has captivated the masses all the same. Whether you planned a road trip, bought the special protective glasses or set some hopeful intentions we have all been living in the nearly 48 hour frenzy leading up to the Total Solar Eclipse global watch party. It’s a beautiful thing to experience the shared excitement on such a large scale. A respite in the crushing news cycle, everyone neighbors, cheering, oohing and ahhing and even crying in sweet symphony. Growing up my father had a fancy telescope and loved to sit outside looking at the moon’s craters and the constellations in the night’s sky. I loved to share this with him but he was definitely always more fascinated and I loved that about him. Like Patrick Moriarty, the retired science teacher in Rochester, NY who reunited with his former students as promised almost 50 years prior, this event has been more than scientific. It’s like the sun’s energy and the moon’s magnetic pull, together with our curiosity have accomplished what most of us need most in this ever isolating world; Human connection, celebration and social unity. Hope you felt it too and hope it lasts. If you miss the feeling, give a listen to the playlist I created for the occasion.
